FORT POINT SPEAKER SERIES - “The Oak Island Mystery” by Danny Hennigar
Danny Hennigar has had a life-long interest and passion for the history of Oak Island and is well steeped in its facts, fiction and legends. Danny worked as a tour guide on Oak Island for three summers in the 1970s for the Provincial Department of Tourism. He also offered tours of the island from 2005 - 2009 in association with the Oak Island Tourism Society. He has been involved with several made for TV documentaries about the amazing treasure hunt, participated in regional, national and international radio shows, is a writer with many Oak Island related stories to his credit and is an avid amateur historian. He is the Curator of the Explore Oak Island Display at the old Train Station in Chester Nova Scotia and Board member of the Chester Municipal Heritage Society.

South Shore Exhibition
Located on 43 acres of land in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, the South Shore Exhibition is the largest Agricultural Exhibition in the province. We have been operating an exhibition since 1891. The Board of Directors, Manager and Staff strives to provide you with a summer experience like no other, with good old-fashioned horse & oxen pulls, light horse competitions, show horse events, arts & crafts, 4-H displays and competitions, beef & poultry displays, kids petting zoo, live music and performances from local groups in our Main Building, vendors selling their wares, big name country music Saturday and rock on Friday on our Main Stage, and the parade always kicks off the week on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Little Kid’s Got Talent for ages 4-11 at 2pm, Children’s day (Wednesday) with glitter tattoos, balloon twisting, kids characters, and other entertainment specifically for the kids (free for Kids 12 and under when accompanied by an adult), free admission everyday for kids 7 and under.
Campbell Amusements provides the midway with rides & games for people of all ages.
There are many food vendors available to satisfy any appetite, and so much more. There is something for every one in the family.

Join Jennifer Browdy, PhD, an award-winning memoirist, author, coach and veteran professor of literature for a lively, interactive talk and workshop on how to explore your life story in all its complexity and depth. Jennifer Browdy is the author of a memoir, What I Forgot… And Why I Remembered and two award winning writers’ guides for memoirists. Her latest book, Purposeful Memoir as a Quest for a Thriving Future, features her photographs of natural beauty of the South Shore, where her family has a summer home.

This talk will be given by Ellen Hunt, who was feature in the Nova Scotian Women Strong; film by Jan Rofihe. Ellen is very knowledgeable about the customs, culture, survival, and the ways of living of the Mi’kmaq people in this area of LaHave. She speaks from personal experience and will move you with her knowledge. Not only does she have experience with the sacred medicines used by the Mi’kmaq people during smudges, but drums to the heart of everyone listening.
Ellen is also an active board member and supporter with the Fort Point Museum. Ellen is president of the Mi’kmaq Heritage Sacred Sites, and Burial Grounds.
We will be serving tea, coffee, and a strawberry dessert.
